Understanding the Relationship Between Leukemia and Yeast Infections

Cancers and autoimmune diseases can wreak havoc on the body, leaving it defenseless against common bacteria and viruses. One condition many suffering from leukemia often develop is the common yeast infection. While a yeast infection may seem pretty standard to the average man or woman, those suffering from cancer often find themselves struggling from a chronic condition.

Yeast infections are caused by a fungus in the yeast family, called Candida. Many people associate yeast infections with the female reproductive organs, but the truth is that any part of the body can be overcome with (and therefore infected by) yeast. It has recently come to light that there appears to be a mysterious connection between yeast infections and leukemia, and this news has the medical and scientific communities, as well as the average citizen, taking note. What is this all about? Here is a guide to understanding the relationship between leukemia and yeast infections:

Yeast Infections in Cancer Patients

For many years, it has been a known fact in the scientific and medical communities that cancer patients tend to develop yeast infections easily and quite often. Up until recently, it was widely accepted that yeast infections were the result of immune system weaknesses caused by cancer. However, a new school of thought is emerging, reversing the roles and making yeast infection the cancer-causing culprit.

Bone Cancer Origins

In scientific studies on leukemia (bone cancer), it has been found that the majority of bone cancer cases begin in the growth plates. Growth plates are the developing ends of long bones. Because they are made of cartilage, they are still soft, and susceptible to damage. Damaged growth plates are, in turn, susceptible to infection - including fungal (or, yeast) infection. Some doctors and scientists postulate that bone cancer is actually caused by yeast infection that affects the growth plates after a bone injury (fracture, etc.).

Plant Cancer

Did you know that plants get cancer, too? Guess what is responsible for any and every case of plant cancer? That's right - yeast infestation.

The Alkaline Environment

It is scientifically proven that fungus cannot thrive in an alkaline environment. Curiously, cancer cannot either. Sodium bicarbonate (or baking soda) can kill fungi of all types. New scientific studies are also using this common kitchen pantry item to target and kill cancerous tumors, and with some very promising results. Therefore, the same, simple ingredient that can be used to kill yeast infections might very well be a viable solution for knocking out leukemia.

Cancer develops most easily and rapidly in irritated and inflamed environments. Yeast infection is a well-known cause of inflammation. This relationship - between cancer, infection, and infection-related inflammation - has long been noted by the scientific community.

Whether or not yeast infection is a direct cause of cancer is still up for debate. It is somewhat of a "which came first - the chicken or the egg?" type question. Time, and much research, is likely to reveal the answer - hopefully sooner rather than later.

Eating a High Alkaline and Healthy Diet

Since cancer cannot thrive in an acidic environment, it makes sense to eat a more alkaline diet. Many do not understand the difference between acidic and alkaline foods. Avoid acid causing foods.

A list of acidic foods that can cause the body to become more acidic includes:

  • Alcohol
  • Dairy products including cheese
  • Processed foods
  • Eggs
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Meat, especially processed meats like hot dogs, deli meats, and sausage.
  • Animal protein including fish
  • Soda pop
  • Caffeine, especially coffee
  • Plant oils like olive, soy, palm, etc

Alkaline foods include all vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and seeds. As you can see, eating a vegan or mainly vegan diet is the best way to eat an alkaline diet. Here is a list of acidic and alkaline foods. This type of diet also gets rid of inflammation.

Drinking a glass of water with 1 teaspoon of Braggs apple cider vinegar each day can really help alkalize your body.

Getting Rid of Yeast Infections

Yeast and a poor gut can also cause diseases to occur, also a poor gut and digestive system can also lower the immune system, and a strong immune system is what defends our body from all illnesses and diseases.

A great way to increase our immune system is to make sure we have more good bacteria in our guts than we have bad bacteria. One way is to eat the alkaline foods listed above. Most whole grains, vegetables, legumes and fruits are called prebiotics. Prebiotics are the foods that probiotics need. Eating potatoes, vegetables, fruits and legumes are the best way to create a healthy environment in our guts.

There are also very good probiotic supplements that you can take to get rid of yeast infections, heal the gut and promote a healthy gut. Supplements from Ultimate Flora like Ultimate Flora Women’s Complete Probiotic 90 billion especially designed for woman. They also have numerous products for both men and women with different amounts of probiotics, like 25, 50, 90 billion.

It is important to remember, that these supplement will not do much good, if a person continues to eat a poor diet of fast foods, processed foods and junk foods.

As you can see, diet and the gut play an important role in preventing leukemia and cancer in general. A good diet helps everyone have a healthy gut, which gets rid of inflammation that helps build a strong immune system to fight off all disease and illness.
